I’ve always admired Non-Format’s work, They combine alot of typography into their design. They’ve updated their site with new work. Check it out.

I recently discovered the website of Academy - a creative studio based in Vancouver, Canada. Designed by the talented Suprb and Subdisc.
It’s a great example of breaking the traditional layouts associated with web, normally we stick to the trusted ‘header, footer and 2-columns’ approach but this site can show you can break free and get away with it.
It’s portfolio page really grabs your attention, great work combined with interesting angles, none of it overdone and quite minimal but extremely effective design.
Hugely inspiring indeed. Check it out!

Quite a few of the big projects we do at +REHABSTUDIO are made with AS frameworks, because of the large amount of code controlling various types of media, various XML files and also complicated page structures, a need to maintain a universal structure in a form of a design pattern, that various people working on the same project can follow, becomes paramount.
*Probably* the most common design pattern used at the moment is pureMVC. Ive been spending a bit of time getting acquainted with the design pattern, but as I’m sure most newbies will find.. It ain’t easy!
Theres all these Proxies, Mediators, facades to learn and understand what they do, as well as other things that can be pretty hard to get your head round. The steep learning curve is only compounded by the fact that theres a real lack of tutorials found online. There’s a very good tutorial written by Ahmed Nuaman for flash tuts+ which is very well written and incredibly easy to follow. I highly recommend it for a first stepping-stone, as it will get you well on your way to understanding this open source framework. You can find the tutorial here.
I’m learning more and more as I go on, it’d be a great help if there were more tutorials out there, if you know of any good ones, drop a link here!
Does anybody have any comments, recommendations, advice to learning pureMVC, and what about other open source frameworks like Cairngorm, GAIA, etc?
Cheers!
@markaduffy haha! Think that's Howard who lives by west strand who runs it.. Il give u a buzz next time I'm up for sure -
